    All Music Guide Review

For a first rate documentary on the mysterious former Velvet Underground chanteuse Nico, the 1995 film Nico Icon is highly recommended, but to experience her dark and unsettling stage work, go directly to the 2000 DVD An Underground Experience + Heroine. As the title suggests, the set collects two separate Nico home videos on a single DVD, both concerts filmed in the early '80s. An Underground Experience captures Nico backed by a punk band at a small club, performing such Velvet classics as "I'm Waiting for the Man" and "Femme Fatale," as well as a cover of David Bowie's "Heroes," mixed in with original material. Heroine is an acoustic performance recorded at Manchester's Library Theatre, and features a haunting a cappella version of "All Tomorrow's Parties." Bonus material includes a complete discography and biography, as well as unseen interview footage. ~ Greg Prato, All Music Guide
