Fat Possum Records continues to push the blues and rap envelope by releasing an entire disc mixing hip-hop with Delta blues. New Beats From the Delta sets the gritty blues of Junior Kimbrough, Johnny Farmer, and Cedell Davis to hip-hop beats incorporated by producers including Organized Noize and Camp Go Gittas. This hybrid was tried on R.L. Burnside's 1998 release Come On In with mixed reviews. Chances are if you're a blues purist, you may want to pass on this, while listeners open to experimentation should check it out. ~ Al Campbell, All Music Guide
