The sixth official mix album from Dieselboy isn't the first to carry a couple of his own tracks, but it is the place to hear the full versions of his productions since they're all included on a separate disc. Perhaps confronting the apathy that could greet the release of yet another mix album of industrial-strength drum'n'bass rollers (his third in just over a year), Dieselboy ups the ante -- and probably the pitch knob on his turntables -- for The 6ixth Session with tracks like "Heavy Metal" from Technical Itch, "Shrapnel" from Usual Suspects, "Firewire" from Andy C & Shimon, and "Plimsoul VIP" from Facs. In fact, there isn't much coming down here at all, just an atmospheric cut by J Majik ("Solarize") to drop things out at the end. Midway through The 6ixth Session though, Dieselboy injects his own "Invid" and "The Descent" (well, co-productions with Tech Itch's Mark Caro) into the mix, and they come close to sharing the highlight reel alongside all the British names. His tracks sound even better on the second disc, where they're included in their unmixed versions along with a few remixes. Barring the near-inevitable production album, The 6ixth Session makes for a solid shot in the arm to the comatose jungle scene. ~ John Bush, All Music Guide
