The soundtrack to Kenneth Lonergan's small-town family drama You Can Count on Me features appropriately down-to-earth songs from Cheri Knight, String Drag, Bap Kennedy, and the V-Roys. The majority of the film's music, however, is provided by Steve Earle & the Del McCoury Band; the album is even released by Earle's E Squared label. The mix of McCoury's bluegrass roots and Earle's earthy, working-class hero vocals on songs like "Texas Eagle," "The Mountain," "Pilgrim," and "I'm Still in Love With You" -- which also features Iris DeMent -- is perfect for the film, matching and adding to its raw, emotional honesty. Marah's similarly rousing "Far Away You" and the V-Roys' "Amy 88" are some of the other highlights from this worthwhile, genuine soundtrack. ~ Heather Phares, All Music Guide
