After recording just one album, alternative metal combo Snot was effectively destroyed when lead singer Lynn Strait lost his life in a freeway accident on December 11, 1998. The band had seemed on the verge of stardom and at the time was completing the music for its second album. As a memorial to Strait, Snot eventually decided to release those tracks, with lyrics and guest vocals provided by a phalanx of stars from the alt-metal community. The resulting album, Strait Up, is a fitting tribute from Strait's peers and friends, featuring members of Limp Bizkit, Korn, Slipknot, Sevendust, (hed)pe, Coal Chamber, Sugar Ray, System of a Down, Soulfly, and more. There are a few lackluster moments, but overall the outpouring of support and the sentiment of some of the lyrics are moving. Strait Up also features a remixed version of "Absent," the Strangeland soundtrack song that proved to be Strait's final recording with the band. ~ Steve Huey, Rovi
