Jazz Greatest Hits: The Great Ones

Lyrics from Jazz Greatest Hits: The Great Ones
All Music Guide Review
Jazz Greatest Hits: The Great Ones compiles some of the best-known songs by four of jazz and swing's most important early figures: Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman, and Jelly Roll Morton. Each artist gets his own disc in the set, which means that, in effect, this is simply four greatest-hits compilations packaged together. At give or take 15 tracks apiece, each compilation is by no means complete and leaves out some well-known hits and necessary items; these are decent samplers, yes, but not quite as strong as the Ken Burns Jazz compilations, for example. As a way to get four artist samplers all in one place, the set might come in handy, but there are also better collections available for all of these figures. ~ Steve Huey, All Music Guide
