    All Music Guide Review

Who wouldn't want to be an International Deejay Gigolo? The flashy suits, the expensive drinks, the millionaire young ladies offering you lines of cocaine off their over aerobicized buttocks. It's not a lifestyle many could refuse. While the life of a DJ can be a pleasurable one, especially if you're globally known, as is label head DJ Hell, it still can't compete with the despicable affluence of, say, an heir to a diamond exporting empire. But that doesn't keep Hell and his cohorts from trying to live out their fantasies of excess and hedonism that is bizarrely captured in their techno-distorted '80s no-future dance tracks. The music contained on this double-CD set is heavily informed by an '80s influence, stretching from the bleak no wave of Atwil's "Erotic Pain" to the stark Detroit electro of Dopplereffekt's couplet, "Pornoactress" and "Pornoviewer." Gabe Catanzaro eases off the seediness, with a instrumental turn at dance-pop that would never threaten to sway your over moussed hairdo, but the compilation ends with the fingernails across your eardrums shriek of original '80s electro jazzbos Tuxedomoon. Ironically, while most consider Gigolo to be a techno label, only tracks by Terrence Fixmer and Hell himself have much to do with more traditional genres, those being German techno and Chicago acid house, respectively. Not just another German record label, but a sick'n'twisted fairy tale of '80s excess and moral decay, Gigolo records are the soundtrack to the ultimate party at the end of time and the inevitable comedown the following dawn. ~ Joshua Glazer, All Music Guide
