Jeff Jarvis is a fine trumpeter and flügelhornist who was most influenced by Freddie Hubbard. However, on this set, the musicians are better than the material. Most of the songs have throwaway and pop-ish melodies that unfortunately make the tunes sound preferable as background music rather than for close listening. The rhythm section is functional, if not distinctive, even if Jarvis and Denis DiBlasio (on baritone, flute, and a hyper scat vocal) have plenty of good spots. But other than the lone standard at the end of the date, "They Can't Take That Away From Me," the songs are just not strong enough to deserve much attention. ~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide
