Heart of Soul Classics, Vol. 2 mixes its selections from the '60s, '70s, and '80s, though it concentrates mostly on the latter two decades. As such, it doesn't completely hang together, what with the differences in sound and production techniques between the different eras of soul music represented here. But even though the selection is scattershot, there is an impressive array of talent here, with songs featured by Marvin Gaye, Smokey Robinson & the Miracles, Lionel Richie, Patti LaBelle, Barry White, Con Funk Shun, Rufus & Chaka Khan, Atlantic Starr, and more. ~ Steve Huey, All Music Guide
