Music industry legend George Goldner started Rama Records in 1953 as an outlet for R&B releases. Spread out over four discs, the 56 tracks here are a foot-tapping, heartstring-tugging look at the early days of R&B vocal groups. Tracks by the Crows, Wrens, and Valentines give the listener a history lesson and a rockin' good time. Some all-time classic vocal group tracks are here, like the incredible "Gee by the Crows, "Woo Woo Train" by the Valentines, "Oo Wee Baby" by the Harptones, but mostly you get lots of solid songs performed with a lot of soul. Of special note to collectors are two rare tracks: a previously unreleased version of "The Bells" by the Pretenders and an outtake version of "Falling for You" by the Valentines. ~ Tim Sendra, All Music Guide
