    All Music Guide Review

Smooth jazz is a genre that can be hard to take seriously. There are some respectable artists working in it, but more often than not the music being made is quite dull. On Smooth Jazz Saxuality, it is definitely the dull aspect of this music that sticks out. Sounding all the world like the music pumped into shopping centers, the ten songs here fail to get off of the ground for one critical reason. The music is simply too false, whether it be the trip-hop lite of Kim Waters' "Possession" or the programmed keyboard funk of Nelson Rangell's "Soft Place to Fall." When the horns actually do start, the impact is deadened by the soft background. There is some excellent playing on the album; there is no doubt that these artists have a lot of talent. But almost everything surrounding that emotive horn playing works against it, making the tracks much less interesting as a result. Maybe with some different instruments this would have been a more engaging album, but as it stands the most exciting thing about this album is its cover. ~ Bradley Torreano, All Music Guide
