    All Music Guide Review

Rhino's 2001 collection Jammin' Oldies contains 20 soul and disco hits from the '70s, occasionally dipping into the '60s (Aretha Franklin's "Chain of Fools") or '80s (Patrice Rushen's "Forget Me Nots"). There's nothing unexpected here -- when Redbone's "Come and Get Your Love," Evelyn "Champagne" King's "Shame," Cornelius Brothers & Sister Rose's "Treat Her Like a Lady," and Chaka Khan's "I Feel for You" seem obscure to their company ("Let's Stay Together," "Pick up the Pieces," "Let's Get It On," "We Are Family," "I'll Take You There," "Mr. Big Stuff," "Superfly," the sublime "I'll Be Around," etc.), you know you're on familiar ground. Still, it's hard to fault the song selection, the sound is good, the packaging is well done (complete with nice notes by Denise Sullivan), which means that this isn't a bad choice somebody that just wants the familiar. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide
