McGuinn's Folk Den, Vol. 2 is the second of four short, discount-priced recordings of traditional folk songs that Roger McGuinn distributed through www.mp3.com/mcguinn. These recordings sound a bit more polished than those on Vol. 1, with McGuinn overdubbing several guitar tracks and creating harmony parts that sometimes echo his work with the Byrds, particularly on the lead-off track, "John Riley," which appeared on the Byrds' third album, Fifth Dimension, back in 1966. Songs like "900 Miles," "Old Paint," and "Buffalo Skinners" were favorites during the folk boom of the early '60s that McGuinn emerged from, and one can listen to this album as a primer of the music that influenced the singer when he went on to help create folk-rock. ~ William Ruhlmann, All Music Guide
