Historical tidbits and a musical trivia quiz are also included in the liner notes. 1971, Vol. 1 has a pleasing mix of the powerful and the gentle, with music from Ike & Tina Turner, Three Dog Night, Rare Earth, and the Jackson 5. One especially great song that made it into the mix is Marvin Gaye's wistful "What's Going On."
