A Year in Your Life: 1977, Vol. 2

Lyrics from A Year in Your Life: 1977, Vol. 2
All Music Guide Review
Featuring more hits from that year, Year in Your Life: 1977, Vol. 2 continues to focus on some of the year's biggest trends (with the notable exception of punk): disco, soul, and soft rock. Thelma Houston's "Don't Leave Me This Way" and Heatwave's "Boogie Nights" represent disco's soft and funky sides, while the Commodores' "Easy," David Soul's "Don't Give Up on Us," and Rose Royce's "I Wanna Get Next to You" reflect soul's prominence that year. Al Stewart's "Year of the Cat," one of the best soft rock singles ever, and Stephen Bishop's "On and On" reflect that trend's popularity in 1977, and the collection is rounded out by Hall and Oates' classic "Rich Girl." While it's too short to be a complete look at 1977's biggest songs, Year in Your Life: 1977, Vol. 2 does give listeners a feel for the way that year sounded. ~ Heather Phares, All Music Guide
