Unlike other volumes of the Rhino Instant Party series, Hot Hot Hot doesn't have a specific musical theme. Sure, it plays around with "hot" themes and some "wild" things, but it's pretty much a jumble of classic rock, new wave, and classic soul, with Tone-Loc thrown in for good measure. It doesn't really hold together in a conventional sense -- anything that goes from Eurythmics, to Nilsson, to the aforementioned Mr. Loc, then winding back to Bow Wow Wow, isn't intent on capturing a particular style or era -- but it doesn't sound bad, either, and it doesn't have too many duff tracks. It doesn't have anything unconventional, either, so it's hard to recommend, but if you're looking to get all of these cuts on one disc, Rhino Instant Party: Hot Hot Hot won't disappoint. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide
