During the first years of its existence Sarah Records adhered to a strict policy of releasing only vinyl and only 7" singles, but you could argue that it's with CD compilations like Temple Cloud that the label's focus truly took shape -- only when stacked side by side did the scope of Sarah's singles output become truly obvious, revealing both the uniform melodicism and the subtle gradations of the label's lovelorn, bookish guitar pop. By the time of Temple Cloud (like all Sarah comps named in honor of a Bristol bus route), the label roster was both solidifying and expanding, with new additions like Action Painting! ("These Things Happen") and Gentle Despite ("Darkest Blue") joining the ranks of flagship acts like Another Sunny Day ("Green") and the Orchids ("Yawn") -- still, the contributions of the Field Mice ("Sensitive" and "If You Need Someone") stand tallest, already making it clear that this was the band that would endure as Sarah's finest. ~ Jason Ankeny, All Music Guide
