    All Music Guide Review

It's only natural to focus on Sarah's A-list bands like the Field Mice, the Orchids and Heavenly when discussing the label's output, but from a historical standpoint, singles compilations like the wonderful Glass Arcade are perhaps even more valuable for preserving the work of acts whose brief lifespans yielded only one or two recordings. Consider the little-remembered Springfields, one of several bands teaming Paul Chastain and Ric Menck, together best known for their work in Velvet Crush -- "Wonder" is jangle pop goodness wrought in note-perfect retro chic. Or there's the even more little-remembered Eternal, represented here by "Sleep" and "Breathe," which together comprise two-thirds of their lone Sarah single and boast intriguingly dreamy guitar work from Christian Savill, later to resurface in Slowdive. And then there are the hits, of course, highlighted this time by the Field Mice's "So Said Kay," Heavenly's "I Fell in Love Last Night" and the Orchids' "Something for the Longing." ~ Jason Ankeny, All Music Guide
