What's this? A Warrior Soul retrospective entitled Classics -- in what parallel dimension would that be the case? But seriously, folks, though their promising career was rendered obsolete by the changing musical forces of the early '90s, in their day, Warrior Soul's best material was among the most inspired and inventive metal to be found. But, along with other groundbreaking bands like King's X and, to a lesser extent, Faith No More, their best efforts were summarily ignored by fans and the mainstream media, the latter having decided that heavy metal was to have no future in the new decade. Yet, despite their relative obscurity, power chord-driven anthems like "Love Destruction," "Downtown," and "Super Power Dreamland" remain vital examples of a truly exciting phase in the development of heavy metal -- just before things started to go downhill. All things considered, Warrior Soul are fully deserving of a greatest hits package, but first-time fans are still encouraged to discover the band via their remarkable debut Last Decade, Dead Century, if they can find it. ~ Eduardo Rivadavia, All Music Guide
