Sophisticated soul and pop songs beautifully baritoned by Walter Jackson in an effort to break the overlooked soul singer into the more lucrative pop market. Physically challenged (polio), the handicap didn't hinder his singing ability one bit. The 19 tracks are from Jackson's second hurrah, the years after his more successful days at Okeh Records. All were hits by others -- there's not an original song in the bunch and nothing specifically crafted for Jackson -- but you'd never think so from the precision with which Jackson weaves the words into arrangements. Some work better than others. High fives go to "Pardon Me (You Remind Me of a Friend)," "If It's Magic," "Too Shy to Say," "I Won't Remember Ever Loving You," and "Player in the Band." ~ Andrew Hamilton, All Music Guide
