Named for Chico Hamilton's late son, Foreststorn, the legendary drummer's Koch debut, presents an amalgam of blues, swing, soul-jazz, and Latin, with a strong emphasis on unabashed grooving. The supple and gruff-toned guitarist Cary DeNigris often steals the show, although saxophonists Erik Lawrence and Evan Schwam are the prominent front-line voices. (Paul Ramsey is the bassist.) Over half a dozen special guests appear during the course of the album, including Blues Traveler frontman John Popper and former Spin Doctors guitarist Eric Schenkman, both of whom bring their blues-based rock sensibilities to the project. Some of the more unusual highlights include "Bone Cello," a dual feature for Steve Turre's trombone and Akua Dixon's cello; "11 Bars for Arthur," a whispy rubato piece featuring alto veteran Arthur Blythe; and the quirky, unpredictable "Sorta New." A worthy addition to Hamilton's resume, and a timely update of his eclectic Euphoria band concept. ~ David R. Adler, All Music Guide
