Arranger Johnny Richards led a little-known big band during 1944-1949, recording eight selections for Musicraft (1944-1945). The music on this collector's LP is from around 1945 and taken from radio broadcasts. There were no major names in Richards' 14-piece orchestra, and the leader's arrangements are ultimately more significant than any individual soloist. Dottie Reid takes three vocals, Pat Russo has one, and Richards himself takes a rare tenor solo on "Jealousy." The music overall is swing music that looks towards bebop and is mostly interesting because of what Johnny Richards would accomplish in later years. ~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide
