This tribute album lives up to the hype. The quality of this release, both in terms of the bands that play on it and the overall production of the double-CD set, should make Roy Loney, Cyril Jordan, and all other ex-Groovies very pleased indeed. Featuring 34 tracks by an international cast of punk, garage, psych, and pop bands, this collection starts off rocking, goes out the way it came in, and doesn't let up in between. Highlights are all over the place. DC rockers Adam West literally rip the flesh off "Dog Meat," and the Finkers get jangly on "You Tore Me Down." The classic "Slow Death" is left in the capable hands of the Streetwalkin' Cheetahs, who give the song the workout it demands. Australia's Panadolls do a rocked-out job on "In the USA." New Jersey's Mad Daddys don't necessarily add anything to "Comin' After Me," but it is a perfect song for that paranoiac bunch to record. The album's executive producer, Kike Turmix, takes on "Teenage Head" himself with his Safety Pins All Stars, while "Shake Some Action" is left to the mysterious Doorslammer, who do a traditional but nevertheless exciting version. So many tribute albums have weak tracks on them that the consistency of this one really stands out. Over 34 songs it's hard to believe that none of the versions are bad and so many are excellent. Of course one doesn't expect tributes to improve on the originals; however, Groovin' Round the World is a blast from beginning to end, with many genuinely pleasant surprises in store for the listener. ~ Geoff Ginsberg, All Music Guide
