Finally released after numerous delays, this Theo Parrish 12" was well worth the wait. "I Can Take It," a track that many at the 2000 Detroit Electronic Music Festival thought was a Parrish remix of Recloose's "Can't Take It," was actually totally revamped from the ground up. Parrish snagged lyricist Dwele and took him into the studio to completely rehash the vocal. Parrish's take on the track is much darker and less dancefloor oriented than that of Recloose. With its moody drawn-out synths and low-key beat, this track is meant for the late-night after-hours crowd. The B-side track, "Sawala Sayale," which appears on the Recloose mix CD Jigsaw Music, is about as primal of a track as listeners have ever gotten from Theo Parrish. He reworks pieces of a tribal song, adding claps and a loop of tribal drums, and works it into a working track. The tribal vocal samples ice the cake on this track. It speaks straight to the soul rather than being interpreted by the mind. ~ Ian Dinsmor, All Music Guide
