All Music Guide Review

Composer/producer Michael turned vocalist on this mid-'80s debut for Motown. After amassing a string of credits for numbers he did for everyone from The Isley Brothers to Aretha Franklin, this was a minor disappointment. While Lovesmith proved a good singer, especially on ballads, and the album was expertly produced, it was more slick than soulful, containing more than its share of self-satisfied, smug arrangements. But it at least got Lovesmith's solo career off to a decent start. ~ Ron Wynn, All Music Guide
