The 1987 reunion tour proved to be quite successful, so the reunited Lynyrd Skynyrd decided to record a full-fledged new record. Though it's hard not to miss the songwriting of Ronnie Van Zant, this is still a strong band, capable of turning out convincing rockers and ballads. There may not be many songs that distinguish themselves beyond something generic, but the group is passionate and tight, making this reunion seem necessary, not a cash-in. This still isn't an essential release, even for the devoted, but it is enjoyable. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide
