All Music Guide Review

A solid 12-song debut ensconced in the tradition of Western swing, and flavored with jazz, with a sprinkling of blues for good measure. McCalister'ssmooth tenor has a light and relaxed feel that's inviting, and is reminiscent of the late Walter Hyatt and also Ray Benson of Asleep At The Wheel. The playing is first rate, provided by the core of The Cowboy Jazz Revue, with help from stellar Austin musicians that include, Johnny Gimble, Floyd Domino, Maryann Price and Champ Hood. This record swings, and highlights include the romantic "Silver Moon," co-written by McCalister, which could easily be mistaken for a standard, and a swingin' cover of The Louvin Brothers' classic "Cash On The Barrelhead." ~ Jack Leaver, Rovi
