This was one of the later albums featuring Wynn Stewart's original sound, before he shifted toward country-pop. The elements of the impending change are there, but he's still got the edge to his singing and sound that characterized his music for most of the 1960s. The songs, which include originals as well as covers of work by Floyd Tillman ("This Cold War"), Tom T. Hall ("Good Old Fashioned Love"), et al., are mostly romantic and sentimental. And the highlight among the latter has to be his rendition of Tommy Collins' "It's Too Much Like Lonesome." The playing is impeccable throughout, and the arrangements and singing are beautiful in both their restraint and execution. ~ Bruce Eder, All Music Guide
