Do Me Baby and Good Love earned Meli'sa Morgan a reputation as a straightforward, Chaka Khan-influenced soul/urban contemporary diva who didn't go out of her way to be trendy. But the singer went for quite a chance of direction on The Lady In Me, sporting a Jody Watley-ish look and going for a much more high-tech production style full of hip-hop, synth-funk and new jack swing elements. Unfortunately, the results are often unimpressive and disappointing. While the CD does contain a few memorable tracks along the lines of Morgan's '80s recordings (including "I'm Better Now" and the silky "Don't You Know"), new jack numbers like "Dancing In Love" and "Can You Give Me What I Want" are about as generic as it gets. The Lady In Me is an album that only Morgan's most devoted followers should acquire. ~ Alex Henderson, All Music Guide
