As half of the distinctive synth-funk duo the System, Mic Murphy contributed to some of the most innovative R&B/urban recordings of the 1980s. Murphy went solo in the early '90s, and Touch finds the singer/composer functioning impressively well on his own. Although not quite as distinguished as his work with the System, Touch is an eclectic and unpredictable release that has many strong points. From a cover of the Chairmen of the Board's "Give Me Just a Little More Time" to the lively electro-funk number "Family Tree" and the ballad "Sunshine," Murphy's integrity and sense of adventure serve him well. Another song that really speaks highly of him is "My Little Princess," which illustrates his ability to embrace new jack swing without sounding like anyone but himself. And on "Ghetto On My Mind" and "Windows of the World," Murphy tackles social issues with inspired results. ~ Alex Henderson, All Music Guide
