Two of Ted Nugent's early '70s albums, Call of the Wild and Tooth Fang & Claw, were combined on one cassette and double-LP set by Warner Brothers in the late '70s. These records find Nugent at something of a hesitant stage, before he fully developed the lovable Motor City Madman persona. His guitar playing in general is good, but it doesn't have the fire of his late-'70s records, and the songs are a little uneven. Nevertheless, they're worthwhile for hardcore fans, even if this isn't necessarily the way to acquire the albums. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide
