All Music Guide Review

Gene Page's score to the cult classic Blacula remains one of the more unique entries in the blaxploitation canon -- while rooted in the wah-wah funk tradition that is the genre's calling card, the soundtrack's surprising reliance on mood and nuance makes it a distinctly different listening experience. Despite vocal contributions from the Hues Corporation and 21st Century Ltd., Page's deeply soulful instrumentals are the star of this show, avoiding melodrama and horror movie banalities in favor of sinuous melodies and mellow rhythms that create genuine suspense. ~ Jason Ankeny, All Music Guide
