    All Music Guide Review

Yet another trance-oriented techno compilation, this one an introduction to the Phatt Phunk label mixed by Andrew Clyne, Plugged In manages to distinguish itself by virtue of the tripped-out production techniques on many of the tracks. Nicholas Martin's "Westcoastown" sets the album's tone right off the bat, its echoing synth sounds and trance-like repetition setting the stage for a mind-altering listening experience. Clyne's own "The Back Nine" provides a seamless transition, its three-dimensional bleeps and blurps working in counterpoint to the insistent rhythms to create a gleefully tweaked-out track sure to appeal to rave freaks everywhere. As with many such compilations, the seemingly endless repetition can grow a bit grating, as too many of these artists seem content to create song structures whose variation is subtle at best, and at worst non-existent. But, on the whole, the mix works, thanks in part to an otherworldly vibe that creates a welcome sense of stylistic cohesion. ~ Bret Love, All Music Guide
