The term "pop-metal" was often used to describe Precious Metal, but while the L.A. rockers were obviously pop, they were never metal. Play this album next to Girlschool's debut album of 1981, and you'll see the difference between an all-female metal band and a band that plays very slick and pop-minded hard rock. For Precious' style of power-pop to work, the hooks and melodies have to be strong...The album does have its moments, including the lusty "Nasty Habits," the snarling "Downhill Dreamer," and an unlikely cover of Jean Knight's 1971 soul classic "Mr. Big Stuff" (which works surprisingly well in a rock setting)... ~ Alex Henderson, All Music Guide
