    After his band broke up permanently in 1948, Boyd Raeburn did not lead any record dates until 1956-57 when he cut three albums worth of material for Columbia. However these last recordings featured studio groups and the arrangements were no longer radical but performed primarily as background for dancing. Ginnie Powell has a few vocals, some with a group called "the Classmates." Otherwise the big band (not identified on this obscure album) sticks to swing standards such as "A String of Pearls," "Elmer's Tune" and "You Stepped out of a Dream." Among the sidemen are trumpeters Charlie Shavers and Buck Clayton, tenor saxophonist Frank Socolow, pianist Nat Pierce and bassist Oscar Pettiford but little significant occurs on this commercial if historically interesting set. ~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide
