Another one of K-Tel's lean rap compilations from 1992, Rap: Beat From the Street's focus is the opposite of Rap: On the Lighter Tip, with the disc based on hardcore rap rather than more pop-oriented and dancefloor-friendly tracks. Though the sounds here are definitely tougher, K-Tel avoids using anything with profanities -- so radio edits and songs that didn't have any cursing to begin with get the nod. If you watched lots of Yo! MTV Raps and tuned in to your local R&B station's rap show during this time, most of the material should be very familiar. DJ Quik's "Born and Raised in Compton," the Geto Boys' "Mind Playing Tricks on Me," MC Breed & DFC's "Ain't No Future in Yo' Frontin'," Cypress Hill's "The Phuncky Feel One," and Ed O.G. & da Bulldogs' "Be a Father to Your Child" are included. ~ Andy Kellman, All Music Guide
