Rap: On the Lighter Tip is another one of K-Tel's themed compilations that surveys the state of rap in 1992. "On the lighter tip" is basically code for "pop." Each of the ten tracks included here are either more melodic or more danceable than the average rap track, and some of them even managed to trouble the pop charts. Kool Moe Dee's "I Go to Work," Big Daddy Kane's "I Get the Job Done," Redhead Kingpin & the FBI's "Pump It Hottie," Sir Mix-a-Lot's "My Hooptie," 3rd Bass' "The Gas Face," and DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince's "I Think I Can Beat Mike Tyson" are included, as are a handful of others. It's a lean compilation aimed at those on a tight budget, and it still manages to make for a nice snapshot of the time. ~ Andy Kellman, All Music Guide
