K-Tel's Rap: Straight Outta the Ghetto is a budget-line disc that compiles ten of the harder-sounding rap hits of the early '90s. This is real heavy on East Coast tracks, with only Uzi Bros.' "Nothin' but a Gangster" and Sir Mix-a-Lot's "Posse on Broadway" rolled out to represent the West. It's also a bit disappointing that just half the capacity of the disc is utilized, but the quality level of the tracks that are included doesn't leave a whole lot to be desired. Most everything is a bona fide classic, including Public Enemy's "Fight the Power," Boogie Down Productions' "You Must Learn," Eric B. & Rakim's "Paid in Full," Slick Rick's "Children's Story," U.T.F.O.'s "Life in the Projects," and 2 Live Crew's "Move Somethin'." It's certainly not the be-all end-all compilation of hardcore rap, but as a random selection, it's more than sufficient. ~ Andy Kellman, All Music Guide
