Forever recalled as one of the modern world's most reliable session men, with stints alongside Pink Floyd, Procol Harum, Nick Hayward, TV Smith, Al Stewart, and David Bowie (to name but a fraction) littering his résumé, Tim Renwick was also involved with some of the most distinctively original music of the 1970s as a member of the ever remarkable Sutherland Brothers and Quiver conglomerate. Whether or not this influenced the decision to let him cut a solo album is not for us to wonder; what should be said, however, is that Tim Renwick stands as one of the unsung jewels in his long career, a guitarist's tour de force that may occasionally stumble in the songwriting stakes, but is nevertheless a solid indication of his most saleable talent. Plus, the opening "Members of the Hard School" has a gritty street defiance that came straight out of the Thin Lizzy school of urban mythology. Other numbers skip across the spectrum of styles, and not always to the best effect. But all is forgiven when Renwick unleashes his guitar -- and that is most of the time. ~ Dave Thompson, All Music Guide
