All Music Guide Review

On Border Affair, Tex Ritter sings traditional Mexican folk songs with authentic Mexican marimba and mariachi bands for accompaniment. Sung entirely in Spanish, the songs include famous selections such as "Cielito Lindo" and "La Cucaracha" as well as lesser-known tunes. Mexican music has always held a prominent place in cowboy culture, and Mexican songs and dances were frequently featured in Hollywood's western films. But even though the connection between singing cowboys and Mexican music is clear and direct, Border Affair was an adventurous album project for Ritter to undertake -- one that was all but guaranteed to be a modest seller. The well-educated Ritter sings the songs comfortably and with feeling in an authentic musical setting, creating a serious album that reflects his interests in folklore and western heritage. ~ Greg Adams, All Music Guide
