During 2000-2001, even while American drum'n'bass DJs like Dieselboy released multiple mixes through Moonshine and other labels, some of the most respected British originators (and sources for many of the American mix albums) kept a relatively low profile, especially stateside. One of the few bubble-ups was DJ Trace's 23° from Vertical (on the Orgone sublabel of Breakbeat Science), a frenetic mix of high-tech paranoid breaks. Though it features tracks from all the usual suspects (Tech Itch, Decoder, J Majik, Ed Rush and Optical, Stakka & Skynet, and the man himself), Trace pumps up the energy level noticeably. 23° From Vertical goes far beyond the average next-gen drum'n'bass mix. ~ John Bush, All Music Guide
