Lyrics from Rock of the 70's, Vol. 5
All Music Guide Review
DCC's Rock of the 70's, Vol. 5 is an ten-song collection of some '70s AOR staples and a few less well-known tracks by bands who are themselves AOR staples. Included are some true '70s rock classics like Derek and the Dominos' "Layla," Elton John's "Benny and the Jets," Golden Earring's "Radar Love" and Kansas' "Carry on My Wayward Son". There are also a few songs that were played quite a bit on AOR but weren't released in the '70s: the Amboy Dukes' "Baby Please Don't Go" and the Chambers Brothers' "Time Has Come Today." This is the kind of lazy slip-up that you often find on compilations of this nature. In this case it is annoying but not a big deal because the songs are very good. Anyone looking for a quick, low-priced glance at the sound of a typical AOR radio station of the era would be doing fine by picking this disc up. [This same collection was released as Reelin' in the Years, Vol. 5 on Sandstone Music in 1991.] ~ Tim Sendra, All Music Guide
