    All Music Guide Review

    Proper's double-disc Vive la France collection rounds up a total of 36 recordings from the '20s, '30s, and '40s. All of the songs are in French, complicating things for non-fluent listeners. Yet, however frustrating to some, this characteristic also gives this collection of music substantial character -- rarely do you get to hear recordings this old, let alone by French performers. Furthermore, most of the featured performers are well-known. This is a great collection for anyone interested in antiquated French vocal pop.
