A combined effort with fiddle player Kevin Glackin, Forgotten Days is the first offering from Davy Spillane on Barrowstone Records. Glackin demonstrates that he has the tone and dexterity to keep up with Spillane on the explosive Celtic opener "Pigeon on the Gate Within a Mile of Dublin," with its lively pace reminiscent of bluegrass. Instrumental achievement is indeed the cornerstone of this 2001 release, as numbers like "Lucy Campbell Trim the Velvet the Abbey Reel" sizzle with instrumental magic. Fans of Spillane's rock-influenced recordings might be a little surprised by the minimal arrangements on Forgotten Days, a record with a title that more than implies a nod to a traditional Celtic feel courtesy of rapid-fire melodies and sparse arrangements. Musicians and Celtic aficionados seeking an instrumental clinic will certainly be thrilled by this collaboration. ~ Vincent Jeffries, All Music Guide
