Lyrics from Karma Beats
All Music Guide Review
Karma Beats collects and combines strong string arrangements, slight Indian percussion, and chunky chillout aesthetics and wraps it all in a morally patronizing package of flaky, market-saturated, co-opted religion. Despite some spectacularly interesting efforts such as Shri's sunlit, metallic, Asian house-based "After the Rain" and Jolly Mukherjee and Madras Cinematic Orchestra's junglist sitar cut "Kirwani," both penciling in a bright future for the album's various subgenres, there's a frozen, forced approach to the compilation itself, as if choices were made to get them out of the way rather than let them dissolve into each other for maximum response. Karma Beats is stuck being either a lingering gaze on the blowout madness of "Hindi Sad Diamonds" from Moulin Rouge or a stiff and over-formal tutorial on world-rooted Hindu dance. ~ Dean Carlson, All Music Guide
