    All Music Guide Review

This compilation is a benefit for a Seattle-based anti-violence project that offers affordable self-defense classes, provides public education and awareness, and leads local community organizing efforts. Many of the artists, therefore, are Seattle-based. The more well-known artists include Zen Guerrilla, the Butchies, and the Black Halos. There are quite a few other local artists who are not as familiar but who put on a good track here and there. Two of the more annoying contributors, however -- the Pinkos and the Gossip -- almost ruin the compilation by having their guitar-driven tracks with annoying vocals toward the beginning of this 17-track album. While their songs give the compilation a false impression of a riot punk album, to hang on and wait for such acts as Sanford Arms, the Makers, and Maktub is certainly worth it. In fact, these relatively unknown artists steal the album from even the signed acts. For those interested in hearing what was going on in Seattle ten years after grunge, this would be a good place to start. ~ Kurt Morris, All Music Guide
