A collection of lullabies from quite literally around the world. 37 different cultures are surveyed in one of the few musical forms that is truly worldwide. Unfortunately, the course of the album is anything but logical. It jumps randomly from Hawaii to Austria to Mexico, and that's only the first three tracks. The variety available here is something quite worth noting, as nearly every cultural group (in the slightly broader sense) is represented with a few songs. While reading the relatively extensive liner notes (with lots of little factoids, quotations and such about sleep included) one might note some surprising similarities between song content between far-flung locations. This is often the point of such an album: to point out the similarities between cultures seemingly entirely different from one another. As such, this album goes a good way toward its possible goal. For the sheer diversity of songs here, it's worth a listen. It might also do some good at the original purpose of the songs: to put someone to sleep.
