    All Music Guide Review

Many country artists have roots in Christianity (Nashville's other musical industry), and it's interesting to see how they approach spirituality when the context isn't pure gospel. Most clever of these here is Lesley McDaniel's harmony-laden ballad "One Perfect Son," which contains the message of Jesus in the context of a kid's football game. Jim Witter's "Be Like Noah" is likewise Biblical wisdom set in an everyday context. Other artists featured include Hal Ketchum, Ken Mellons, Keith Perry, LeAnn Rimes, and Jeff Carson. A deeper sense of true gospel is found on the Clark Family Experience's plucky "The Laying on of Hands," and the song's message is slightly more direct. The most poignant piece is Jo Dee Messina's "Even God Must Get the Blues," a heartfelt look at the Almighty's reaction to the state of the world. Overall, the collection offers a strong sampling of some of the best country music. ~ Jonathan Widran, All Music Guide
