All Music Guide Review

The Upfield single contains two songs that should have made the LP just to change the too-sunny mood, "Rule for Reason" and especially the gritted-teeth hostility of "Thatcherites." The latter is Bragg at his best, as if the happy nap of William Bloke were interrupted for a blast of his old ire at governmental politics. One hoped there would be more of this emotional edge on future releases, as on his previous three (Levi Stubb's Tears through Accident Waiting to Happen). ~ Jack Rabid, The Big Takeover, All Music Guide
