All Music Guide Review
The first part of Thump's It Came from the '80s is a decent, albeit garden variety, compilation of new wave and synth pop -- with the odd diversion into old school hip-hop and rock hits from the latter half of the decade. Prior to its release in 2002, the majority of the songs featured were already widely available on numerous like-minded compilations. The inclusion of songs like Soft Cell's "Tainted Love," Modern English's "Melt With You," Yaz's "Don't Go," Frankie Goes to Hollywood's "Relax," and Devo's "Whip It" is wildly redundant. However, slightly less obvious picks -- B-Movie's "Nowhere Girl," the Smiths' "Ask" -- are definitely welcomed inclusions. The greatest atrocity of the disc is easily the Escape Club's "Wild Wild West," which was, still is, and forever will be, absolute torture to be subjected to. ~ Andy Kellman , All Music Guide
